Following last weeks cancelled fixture, Saturday saw the Men’s 3s play our first game of the season away against Royston 2s. The match began with Royston taking the initiative, dominating possession and creating several early chances. Their forward line pressed high, forcing us to defend resolutely with backs to the wall but Royston were relentless and capitalised with an early goal.
As a newly formed squad it took time to find our rhythm but going 1-0 down gave us the impetus we needed, making better use of the width of the pitch we immediately responded with a well worked team goal which Charlie Kiff finished off nicely to make it 1-1.
The match then balanced out into a high intensity end to end game with both sides creating great chances. Despite some close calls, our defence held firm, with standout performances from Defenders Mark Ireland, Frazer Reavell and goalkeeper Kev MacNamara, who made a series of crucial saves.
As the clock wound down, the tension mounted, but neither side could find a decisive second goal. In the end, both teams settled for a draw, reflecting the competitive nature of the match. It was a great start for a new squad with plenty to build on for the next game against Stevenage.
