Ladies over-45s vs Amersham and Chalfont

Another beautiful day took us to a new venue at Amersham, with wonderful views and a clubhouse perfectly placed to watch the hockey. Just a shame we actually had to play! 😂

The team talk went well, with everyone generously volunteering to be a sub, while Deborah’s bag kept magically producing bananas. Just how they got there remains a mystery

With a strong line-up and an excellent warm-up, we started well in a fairly even game. Harriet’s fresh legs covered the pitch, Sue linked up nicely with Jacquie down the right, and Ellie impressed us in a new forward position, swapping her usual defensive duties for life at the other end!

The defence settled in with Maggie , Justine and so nice to see Gina back on the pitch with Haidee frightening the opposition and clearing loose balls in her usual style. Amersham opened the scoring with an unstoppable goal, but just before the break, a lovely move from a long corner led to a cross for Jo to slip home. Half-time: 1–1!

Amersham upped their game after the break, while some of our legs were definitely feeling Saturday’s game efforts. We lost a bit of our shape, making it harder to clear and build attacks. The defence worked tirelessly, with Carrie making save after saveto earn a deserved Player of the Match. As the reverse-stick shots started flying, protecting our teeth and face became a sensible tactical priority!

A big thank you to Sarah, who went from being injured yesterday to managing us all today — no easy task! Hopefully you’ll be fit to play in the next round. 💚

It finished 4–1 to Amersham, but everyone played so well in a lovely game, played in the right spirit. The teas and cake were amazing — definitely worth the trip!

One question remains… will Deborah’s bag produce any more bananas?
