The Ladies 4s had the honour of starting the new season with the first game on the home pitch. Any early nerves were quickly set aside and both teams got stuck in to a competitive, but good-spirited game. Chiltern went ahead after a converting a short corner, but Letchworth didn't let their heads drop. Half-time sweets to refuel and with only one sub, Letchworth had to play smart and let the ball do the work in the second half. Some superb saves from goalie Sharon kept us in contention. The ghosts of last season's near misses loomed, but Letchworth dug deep, created chances and had greater possession. We overloaded our attack in the final 5 minutes and were rewarded with a short corner. Cue Helen stepping up to strike the ball past the goalie with a resounding thwack on the back board - is there a more satisfying sound? As we made our way back to the centre, the umpire blew the whistle for full time. 1-1, but celebrated as if we had won. Eight players received votes for MoM, reflecting the genuine cross-team performance, but Abbie cemented her first Letchworth appearance with the award.
