Pumas Old & Bold vs Welwyn GC

Last night's game v Welwyn was a tough one, especially in the scorching hot sun but we put in a real shift against a strong and tenacious Welwyn side and im proud of how everyone got stuck in and kept going till the end.

After a brief stint for me in goal at the start I was thankfully replaced with Veda 10mins into the match. A much better option, I think we can all agree 😉.

We started strong and made some good flowing moves, passing well and making good progress up the pitch. However the dry and slow surface, and the heat made it tough work and we struggled to keep the ball as well as we normally do but we kept working hard as always.

Our now legendary defensive team of Nigel, Simon, Alana and Rory were outstanding as always and managed to pick off the numerous Welwyn attacks with poise and skill, time and time again.

The midfield squad of Daya, Suneet, Holly, Vivek, Rich, Olivia and Zoe worked their collective socks off all game, whilst I stood still and coughed a lot. Sorry team, docs appt this morning confirmed a chest infection and drugs prescribed so hopefully I will be of more use next time

Lesley, Baz and William toiled away admirably up front against a strong Welwyn defence, with William playing an absolute blinder for his first ever game of hockey. Well done Will and welcome to the team.

The game was a bit scrappy in the end with neither side managing to take full control and a draw would have been a fair result but unfortunately we conceded a well taken goal midway through the 1st half and never managed to claw back an equaliser.

However, there were some really good individual performances throughout the team (all of you to be honest) but yesterday's player of the match award is going to be shared between Alana, for being our very own Wonder woman in defence all game, and William for being just incredible all round 👏.
