This weekend the Letchworth Ladies headed to Oaklands College to take on St Albans 6s. The college was buzzing with open day visitors, making for a lively atmosphere — and a great backdrop for some good hockey!
Letchworth won the toss and took first push-back, starting strong with great energy and some lovely link-up play through the middle. We created plenty of chances early on and looked threatening in attack, but it was St Albans who managed to convert from a short corner to take the lead. They added a second before half time, meaning we went into the break 2–0 down, but definitely not defeated.
The second half saw us regroup and really dig in. Some great teamwork and determination paid off when Jo Pinn slotted home a brilliant goal — set up perfectly by Chloe, whose trademark accuracy and pace on the pass created the opportunity and opened up the St Albans defence. A real team moment that showed what we can do when it all clicks!
We kept the pressure on right to the end, keeping possession and working hard across the pitch. St Albans did manage to sneak in a third, but Letchworth never gave up and played right to the final whistle.
It was a tough match, with a few calls not going our way, but there was a lot to be proud of — especially our effort, attitude, and teamwork. Having come up from the league below, we’re still showing we belong here, and the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story of how well we played together.
Woman of the Match: Olivia — an absolute powerhouse in midfield! She was everywhere — breaking up play, linking beautifully with her teammates, and never stopping. A well-deserved choice and no wonder she got nearly all of the votes.
Plenty of positives to take forward into next week — same energy, same teamwork, and the results will follow. 💛💚
