Saffron Walden vs Letchworth

Letchworth delivered a confident and composed performance away at Saffron Walden, running out convincing winners after a strong team display built on sharp passing, energetic runs and clinical finishing.

The breakthrough came after 16 minutes when Lucinda opened the scoring, setting the tone early and giving Letchworth a deserved lead. Despite a pre-match team talk stressing discipline, that message seemed to fall on deaf ears as Haidee picked up a card just five minutes in, forcing an early reshuffle.

Undeterred, Letchworth continued to press. The midfield linked up beautifully throughout the half, making some lovely connections and moving the ball with real purpose. Zara was particularly lively, making several great runs down the flank and constantly stretching the Saffron Walden defence.

At 29 minutes, Letchworth doubled their advantage. Sarah delivered a lovely pass from the edge of the circle, which Lesley finished confidently to make it 2–0.

The third goal arrived on 40 minutes after another excellent attacking move. Zara powered through on a strong run before finding Sue, who played a perfectly weighted pass to Haidee for a tidy finish.

Letchworth kept the pressure on in the second half, with Zara continuing to cause problems and the midfield working tirelessly to support both attack and defence. The fourth goal came on 60 minutes when Sarah crossed into the circle and Den reacted quickest, hooking the ball home.

At the back, Man of the Match Justine “the Cat” Jones was outstanding. She produced a string of superb saves, including a crucial penalty flick stop, ensuring Saffron Walden were kept firmly at bay and preserving Letchworth’s dominance.

Special mention also goes to Gemma, whose Fitbit died just 10 minutes in, so she may as well not have been there at all.
